Flying Your Puppy

Most people pick their puppies up from our home. Sometimes, however, a puppy may have to travel a long distance, and shipping arrangements must be made.  We will make those shipping arrangements for you (at your expense) if you prefer, or you can make arrangements yourself.

How do I go about having my puppy flown to me?

bullet

First, we have to find your closest airport that a puppy can fly into. Temperature extremes can limit this (heat and cold) during some times of year. Continental can ship despite temp extremes, as they have covered baggage carriers. But, Continental doesn't fly into some airports (like Boise), so we have to find that out.

bullet

Pay for your puppy in full at least 2 weeks prior to his/her shipping date. This allows us to pay for flight arrangements and release the puppy without delay.

bullet

Then, we will wait until your puppy is at least 8 weeks old to ship him/her.

bullet

We can make the arrangements if you pay for the associated costs at least 2 weeks in advance.

bullet

The cost to fly a puppy 8 weeks old to any major city is generally around $285.  If a puppy has a long layover somewhere, it might be about $75 higher for the airport personnel to clean the carrier, feed/water, and walk the puppy.

bullet

This not at profit to us, and just pays for:

the airline fee

bullet

the shipping container/crate

bullet

attachable food/water dishes

bullet

air-travel veterinary health certificate (a special health certificate required for flights)

bullet

some of our travel costs.  It does not pay us for our time spent or fuel for traveling to and from the airport. It is just a service we provide.

Your puppy will be flown to the nearest major airport to you that Continental or a subsidiary services, or to the airport you specify that we are able to ship to.

Flight times will be determined by the airlines.

Reservations will be made upon receiving payment for the shipping and associated costs, and full payment for the puppy. Please give us at least 2 full weeks prior to shipping your puppy to help ensure flight availability.

If paying with a money order or personal check, we will make arrangements two weeks after cashing the check to allow it to clear. We prefer wire transfers into our bank for expediency.

If you know you want to ship your puppy...

If you ship, please send an e-mail to us with the following information (or call us):

bullet

Make the subject line indicate that the e-mail contains your address for shipping.

bullet

Full name of person that will need clearance at the airport to pick the puppy up

bullet

Your address

bullet

Your phone number (and an alternate if possible)

bullet

The location and name of the airport you hope to use, and an alternate airport if that one is not available

bullet

Known days that will NOT work for you during the week following the 8-week old minimum age.

What should I take to the airport with me when I pick the puppy up?

bullet

Photo ID for the person listed to receive the puppy (which is the buyer, unless you told me otherwise).

bullet

Water to offer the puppy at the airport or at your vehicle.  There will be a food and water dish attached to the inside of the carrier, so you don't need a bowl.

bullet

A collar (12" or smaller) and leash to allow the puppy to exercise a little before the drive home, and for potty stops.

bullet

Baby wipes or a couple wet wash cloths to wipe off the puppy's feet, as they might be soiled from the trip. Beagles don't normally potty in their "homes," but generally, the travel time is longer than they can hold it.

bullet

A plastic garbage bag or grocery bag to dump the soiled bedding from the travel carrier into for disposal.

bullet

A clean towel or something soft and cuddly to put into the carrier for your drive home from the airport.

Please be at the airport immediately upon your puppy's arrival!
It is best for your puppy to be picked up immediately, and also the airline personnel get very nervous if you are not waiting there.

What if I want to make my own shipping arrangements?

We can take your puppy to our airport to fly to your nearest airport.
